I think the clutch assembly can be checked by visiting the test track but I don't bother unless there are additional problems to identify as the removal and assembly of the gearbox is usually quick and hassle-free. Check engine, exhaust, steering rack (yeah, this game thinks the steering rack can 'tap') Dont forget fuel pump is considered part of the engine even though it is on the fuel tank, far away from the engine. The front suspension components are in the same area, so it is quite reasonable for them to describe the sound as 'coming from the engine bay'. all they know is there is a sound that seems to come from the engine bay (to them).
